Madhya Pardesh is richly endowed with a fascinating variety of tourist attractions which can be broadly classified into the following four categories.

Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation is the nodal agency for the promotion of Madhya Pradesh overseas and within country.  However the Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to set up joint venture companies between the State Tourism Department/ M.P. State Tourism Development Corporation and private sector hotel chains for the development of tourism related projects in Madhya Pradesh. It has been decided to privatise 35 hotels tendering for which is almost over.

· Although domestic tourists continue to be the backbone of the tourist industry in M. P. the number of foreign tourists are on the increase every year.

   
· Madhya Pradesh has recently been declared the ‘Tiger State of India’ and two o fits well known National Parks have been attracting increasing number of foreign visitors.

Incentives

A special package for the tourism industry has been prepared. These incentives include:    

· Government land will be offered as equity participation on behalf of Government at current market value towards equity participation for setting up joint Venture Companies

   
· New projects will  be exempt from Luxury, Sales and Entertainment tax for ten years from the date of commencement of the commercial operations
